The Junior program is designed for children in Kindergarten and Year 1, offering a fun, structured introduction to music that builds a strong foundation for life-long musical enjoyment. Spanning two years, this progressive course uses engaging books that include all keyboard pieces, songs, notation, worksheets, and activities for both class and home practice. In each lesson, students sing, move, play, listen, read, and perform. A wide variety of games and interactive activities help develop essential musical skills in a way that is both educational and enjoyable. To support ongoing learning, a keyboard or piano is required for practice at home.
Junior Course students also take part in exciting performance opportunities throughout the year. They participate in the annual AMS Concert and may be eligible to join the AMS Vocal Eisteddfod, AMS Piano Eisteddfod, and AMS Composers Day. At the conclusion of the course, students have the chance sit their first piano exam, if they wish, which provides a comprehensive assessment of their performance, aural, and sight-reading abilities developed over the two years.
Students then progress to Junior Plus to continue developing their musical skills.
