High School Beginner (Year 7-10)

High School Beginner (Years 7–10)

Whether you’re an absolute beginner or already play another instrument and want to explore the piano, this course is the perfect starting point. Designed for high school students in Years 7–10, it offers a practical, engaging introduction to piano and music fundamentals, no prior piano experience required.

Students will learn how to read music, play chords, and understand how songs are built, all from the very first lessons. The course includes a mix of keyboard playing, rhythm and theory activities, aural training, and even singing to help develop well-rounded musical skills.

If you’re new to music, you’ll gain a solid foundation in a supportive and interactive setting. If you’ve played another instrument before, you’ll enjoy applying your musical knowledge in a new way, while expanding your skills in harmony, accompaniment, and creativity.
Lessons are fast paced and age appropriate, with plenty of opportunities to build confidence, explore creativity, and make real musical progress. A keyboard or piano at home is essential for practice and reinforcing what’s learned in class.

Students can also take part in AMS concerts, eisteddfods, music camps, gaining valuable experience and becoming confident, expressive musicians.”

Parent Note

Parent attendance is not compulsory; however, we highly recommend a parent to sit in if at all possible. It gives you a clearer idea of what they are learning and how you can support their practice throughout the week. Students tend to flourish and have a more positive experience with that extra encouragement!
